Malay Lesson: A Video

Roy is keen to learn new Malay words. So we made this little video of me teaching him just that. If time and energy permit, we plan to produce more silly videos of Malay lessons.
I'm not a good teacher for my Malay is completely and utterly poor, thanks to all those years of not speaking my mother tongue as a result of living overseas and speaking English 99.9% of the time. Even then Roy doesn't understand me sometimes especially when I deliberately speak Singlish in an argument :-)
Sometimes I feel like a tutty-fruity (a quote I borrowed from Patricia in this podcast), not belonging here or there, but bits of everything. Having lived in different cities for the past six years (though mostly in Japan) has made me realise that I've come to feel more of an international person than just a Singaporean. I suppose that is not necessarily a bad thing.
Enjoy the video!

That was great! Being from North Carolina, I had the worst time learning Japanese, and still struggle with it...the long drawn out slow southern accent can really do some damage to the Japanese language...ever hear a person from Texas say arigatou...
I think Roy sounded great! Cute video!
Well at least he's got the interest to try out our mother tongue. All my Dutch wife could say after 7 years out of Singapore is "makan" and "buang". She reckons those are most important when back home. But now we're putting more effort on language since our kids would need to know some Malay which would come in handy during Hari Raya vacations! Stuffs like "mintak duit collection" is essential.
